How the pension amount is calculated

The old-age pension amount is the product of three quantities: the average personal wage point, the pension insurance period, and the current pension value. This page explains each of them and the lowest (minimum) pension amount.

The three quantities of the formula

Under § 66 (1) of the Act, the old-age pension amount (SD) is the product of three quantities: the average personal wage point (POMB), the pension insurance period (ODP), and the current pension value (ADH). POMB expresses the ratio of your own wage to the national average for each single career year, averaged across the whole decisive period (§ 63 (1)). ODP is the pension insurance period, in years. ADH is the single price of a point, 19,76 € for 2026.

The cap on the average personal wage point

The average personal wage point above 3 is disregarded (§ 63 (2)) — the part of the career average above that value plays no part in the calculation.

The Act (§ 63 (3) and (4)) also sets how a value outside the 1,0-1,25 band is counted into the average — a lower value is credited favourably, and a higher value (up to the 3 cap) is instead counted at a reduced share. This site does not state the exact percentages at this stage.

The current pension value (ADH)

Sociálna poisťovňa publishes the ADH every year, effective from 1 January, on its own formula derived from year-on-year wage growth in the third quarter of the preceding year. That is a different mechanism from the rule that uprates pensions already in payment (§ 82) — the ADH does not follow pension indexation.

Why there is no amount calculator here

Computing SD requires the career average of your own personal wage points across the whole decisive period — a figure a reader does not usually have to hand while visiting this page. This page therefore does not compute the amount for you; it explains what it is made of.

The minimum pension

If SD would come out below the statutory minimum, the minimum pension is paid instead (§ 82b). Its amount depends on the number of full years of insurance — from 30 rokov (412,00 € a month) up to 65 rokov or more (831,10 € a month).

What this page does not state

No provision was found capping a SINGLE year’s own wage point, separate from the career-average cap. Nor was a floor on the career average located. The Act does not cap the total years of service the formula counts.

Slovakia publishes no separate index for revaluing past earnings: each career year is already expressed as a ratio to that same year's average wage (§ 63 (1)), so there is nothing left to restate — the one moment of revaluation is when the career average (POMB) is multiplied by the current ADH.
