Pension age

Entitlement to an old-age pension requires reaching the pension age and at least 15 years of pension insurance. The pension age varies by birth year and month — the table below shows the cohorts reaching pension age during 2026.

Pension age by birth date

Entitlement to an old-age pension requires reaching the pension age AND at least 15 years of pension insurance (§ 65 (1)). The pension age varies by birth year and month — the table below shows the cohorts reaching pension age during 2026, per Sociálna poisťovňa's own data.

Pension age by birth date (§ 65 (1)-(4), Act No. 461/2003 Coll.)
BornPension age
from September 196263 years and 4 months
from January 196363 years and 6 months

For cohorts born after 1966 the pension age is fixed by a separate decree of the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Family, typically around five to six years ahead (§ 65 (3)). The age for the 1967 birth cohort is already fixed this way; the 1968 cohort's is due to be set during 2026. No further cohorts had been published by Sociálna poisťovňa as of this page's last update.

§ 65 (2) of the Act lets a parent who raised children reach the pension age earlier than the table above states. This site does not state the exact number of months by number of children raised at this stage.

There is no route to an old-age pension on years of service alone, regardless of age — no such provision was found in the parts of the Act reviewed for this page.
